Dear Emerson High School students,
As I conclude my last year of high school and my last year as the Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Charge’, it has only recently hit me that my time as an Emerson student is coming to an end. I’m sure many of those who are a part of the class of 2025 can now relate to the feeling of fleeting time; however, what many may not realize is that we have created forever memories.
In fact, I still remember my first day of journalism my freshman year of high school, the first year that Emerson opened its doors. Having taken the class for the sole purpose of fulfilling my technology credit, I had no idea the journey I was yet to go on, let alone that I would end high school as the Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper. My freshman year, I had yet to discover how much impact I would make on ‘The Charge’, much less the impact it would make on me.
I started this journey exploring my newfound passion for writing through learning the principles of journalism. The emphasis on honesty, accountability and transparency stood out to me. In today’s world, these principals continually prove to be more important than ever, and they’ve laid the foundation for my writing in the newspaper.
I feel so privileged to have had this wonderful opportunity to capture moments in Emerson’s history through my writing, to represent my peers and to learn lessons through this organization that I will carry with me for a lifetime.
I’ve been with ‘The Charge’ as early as the publishing of our very first article on our website, during the organization of our first event and through the creation of our very first magazine. During these years, I’ve seen this organization grow to one that works everyday to represent our student body and maintains attention to detail, integrity and creativity in everything we do.
To all the staff writers who have ever written for the newspaper with me, even those published as part of the newspaper club during its early days, I thank you for joining me in this journey of establishing our newspaper and a legacy of excellence.
Most of all, I would like to thank Ms. Tolar, Ms. Young and Ms. Burns for guiding me through this journey. Your support has been instrumental to the success of this organization. I cannot express enough the positive impact you have had on me.
I feel so grateful to have helped build this program from the ground up and I’m so excited to see what the future staff create for ‘The Charge.’
Thank you for having me as your Editor-in-Chief.
Sincerely,
Sahasra Elaprolu
Editor-in-Chief 2024-2025
