The orchestra will have a fall concert on Wednesday, September 27 in the auditorium. This will be an evening for various music enthusiasts to enjoy a night of melodious tunes.
In honor of autumn, the orchestra opted to play pieces centered around this breezy season to get their audience in the “fall spirit.”
“Since this is our fall concert, we chose ‘fall type’ music, in the sense that it is very dark and dynamic,” Co-Lead Secretary Anvita Nandula said. “We have really good bass and cello notes in our music, which put our audience in a gloomy and spooky mood.”
In order for the concert to run smoothly, students were hard at work outside of school and during class time.
“We did a lot of in-class rehearsals,” President Khasya Tinglin said. “Aside from time alloted in class, we individually practiced our pieces and then we gathered in groups and practiced together. This was to make sure that we were all in line and sounded the same.”
Furthermore, Nandula discussed what the officers implemented throughout the practices for the concert’s success.
“We know exactly what and when the orchestra section is going to play during the rehearsals and what we will do during the break periods, ” Nandula said. “We also have certain scripts and an itinerary for the officers and the students, which has been very helpful for the past years as they ensure our concerts are well-organized.”
As this concert marks the first on-stage performance for the orchestra this year, it will set a precedent for upcoming shows and showcase Ms. Mour’s leadership to spectators, especially the parents.
“The first concert always sets the tone for the rest of the year, ” Co-Lead Secretary Sri Manasi Katuri said. “The more orderly it goes, the more focused our musicians are later on. Additionally, seeing Ms. Mour’s teaching style on stage as a new teacher will be cool to watch and will be a strong way for us to develop a sense of reassurance after having our former director leave.”
Moreover, Tinglin presented an optimistic attitude in the aftermath of the concert that will benefit the orchestra in all aspects.
“Hopefully, we will be able to prove that we can play higher level music, which will give us the opportunity to play more fun pieces and have prolonged performances,” Tinglin said.
Emerson’s first orchestra concert for this school year has students thrilled to be able to exhibit their musical knowledge to their and dear ones. The orchestra has some exciting events lined up that are sure to close this year off well.
