On September 26, The Emerson Choir will have its first concert of the year. It’ll be an evening where attendees will hear soothing voices and playful melodies that’ll brighten up the atmosphere.
Unsurprisingly, The Emerson Choir has been thriving this year from their large increase in membership and being taught under the experienced guidance of their new director, Christopher Orr. Choir members believe he’s been a driving force for this year’s early successes.
“Our director has been influencing a lot of positive change in our choir; everyone is more motivated to work, and everyone wants to join the choir, so that’s a really special thing,” Senior choir member Camilla Manlapaz said.
That positive change is undoubtedly seen in the program based on this year’s membership numbers.
“We have grown a lot. At the end of our very first year, we only had 28 members. At the end of last year, we had 44, and now we’ve skyrocketed to 72 members!” said EHS Choir President Kemuel Santiago.
Other than the rapid growth of the Emerson Choir, they have been practicing their stunning vocals tirelessly. Their hard work is leading up to the upcoming concert, where they have chosen an array of pieces, and one of their favorite pieces is titled “Flight.”
“I’m most excited for Flight because every treble voice sings that song, which is 30 plus people”, said Camilla.
Santiago shares the same eager sentiment for two other songs performed by the angelic Madrigals, “I am definitely quite excited about “Esto Les Digo” and “The Road Home” because both of these songs are absolutely beautiful.”
Their vocals are not the only reason to attend the concert but also because it’s the choir’s first time performing varsity-level music, which is a massive milestone. It opens many exciting opportunities for the young program and sets them up for even more success.
With their achievements and even moments of struggle, what makes Emerson Choir special is their tight-knit community, which allows members to feel supported in every way and, according to Manlapaz, “unify with one voice.”
The program’s efforts are about to be seen in full display with friends and family brimming with enthusiasm to see the choir’s musical talents, ensuring a memorable conclusion to the academic year.
