The Project Pink Foundation, a 501(c)3 registered nonprofit organization committed to addressing the lack of access to adequate mental health care for women, has chartered a chapter of the Emerson organization run by President Pakhee Verma.
The Emerson chapter is an extension of the main organization and works to support its cause. Verma was moved by their mission, which prompted her to start a chapter herself.
“I was specifically motivated to start a Project Pink chapter when I first saw the actual impact the organization made on the community,” Verma said. “I wanted to be involved in a forum that makes a difference, and I saw that with this organization.”
The chapter will be hosting various events throughout this school year, which all work to provide as many resources as possible to help women struggling with their mental health while fundraising for the cause.
“Our club specifically will be hosting many workshops, fundraisers, donation drivers, and presentations from guest speakers,” Verma said. “Our events will not only be informational but also a great way to make an impact on our community with your friends!”
The main organization actually has more ties to Emerson than just the chapter. The organization was originally founded by Gayathri Vanka and Sanjana Kavula, two Emerson seniors, and several core team members who hail from Emerson. Aditi Bhuvanesh, Emerson student and editor-in-chief of the main organization is excited about how the chartered clubs will help with Project Pink’s mission.
“Right now, our executive team is really centered around the DFW area, and so all of the events we’ve organized have been in DFW,” Bhuvanesh said. “But with our chartered clubs, we want to expand to different states and make a bigger impact in order to expand and get resources to as many people as possible.”
Emerson’s Project Pink team encourages students to get involved with the club and attend its events to raise awareness about adequate mental health access for women.
“As the Project Pink chapter President, I am very excited to see everyone get involved in our club,” Verma said. “I look forward to the many fun events our club plans to host and attend. Cheers to a great year!”
