Whether seeking the serenity of a library or the buzz of a cafe, finding the perfect study spot is an art every student must master. As the school year kicks into high gear, the quest for that ideal study haven becomes more critical than ever for Mavericks.
Starbucks
Many people find the white noise from the hustle and bustle of a lively coffee shop the perfect backdrop to get stuck into projects, essays, and study sessions.
“My favorite study spot is the market street Starbucks because I like the rustic feel of the wooden decor and natural sunlight,” Senior Leina Beshir said. “There’s also an antique shop right next to it, so I can take a little brain break and then go back to study.”
The small and cozy place is a feast for the eye and paired with reliable Starbucks drinks, making it friendly for those in search of a new cafe who are afraid of venturing far out of their taste buds.
“Overall, I would rate this place a 10/10, even 11/10! It’s so cute, never busy, and plenty of outlets,” Beshir said. “I hope people don’t see this and crowd it…”
Even within the same brand, the atmosphere of each Starbucks location is unique, and students have their favorites.
“The one on Coit and Main next to Chipotle is so good, big, and aesthetic. I love it,” Senior Anvita Nandula said. “I think each Starbucks has a different vibe and is so versatile. I just love how I can get so many good drinks and food.”
Magic Cup
Magic Cup is a great place to go if you’re not a fan of coffee but want to study with a little treat. With its fast service and quiet atmosphere, Magic Cup is a go-to for many students.
“I like Magic Cup because it’s always cold, and I love cold places,” Senior Keerthi Bitra said. “Their playlist also lowkey hits. They got bangers on there.”
They also have unique drinks that stand out from other cafes, such as their “Cha Series,” refreshing drinks paired with chili, chamoy, and tamarind candy.
“The drinks are pretty good, aside from the fact that they forgot my boba pearls once,” Bitra said. “Hear me out. Jasmine green tea with seafoam, boba, aloe vera, and 50% sugar. Best. Drink. Ever.” (Editor’s note: Don’t hear her out.)
Bobabros
Boba Bros is a new boba cafe that opened in August and serves various drinks ranging from Vietnamese-style coffee, milk tea, and snacks such as dumplings.
“I really like the potted milk tea,” Senior Ananya Swaminathan said.”It’s milk tea with crushed Oreos in it.”
The calm atmosphere of Boba Bros and their student-friendly prices attract many of those looking for something sweet while working.
“The place is pretty quiet, and the main interior colors are black and green, so it’s nothing too overwhelming,” Swaminathan said.
Library
Tried and true, the library is a great go-to study spot to work in peace. With free wifi, outlets, and plenty of table space, the library is always a good place to rely on.
“I like working at the John and Judy Gay Library because it’s a silent place compared to my house, and it’s a nice environment to work.” Senior Camilla Manlapaz said.
The library also has separate conference and study rooms for those who want to have discussions with friends or work on team projects without disturbing others.
“Even though the library is relatively old, they make sure there are newer furniture and seating styles so it feels nice, and I can feel their dedication to making a community space,” Manlapaz said.
The opening of the Frisco Public Library also expands options for students who don’t want to get distracted by the number of familiar faces at the Gay Library.
“I like how spacious it is, the wide variety of seating options, and it is very aesthetically pleasing. Plus, they have a dinosaur.” Senior Sanjana Kavula said. “I would rate the Frisco Library a 9/10 only because I personally like how the Gay Library is closer.”
