Emerson High School has welcomed Lauren Vanderburg to the Social Studies Department to contribute positively to the school’s environment. This year, she plans on using project based learning to teach her students and prepare them for their future.
Vanderburg says, ”This is my first year but I’ve taught as a long term sub in fifth grade, but I love highschool this is where I’d rather be.” Vanderburg enjoys the energy of high school and wishes to improve the environment.
Vanderburg wishes to motivate her students and make sure they are provided with all the education they are entitled to.
“My motive here at Emerson is to provide as much as I can for students. I want to be a resource, I want to help them get what they need so that they can succeed in life,” Vanderburg said. “I am a resource and someone that’s there to be the expert in the room and not necessarily dictate everything that everyone does in the classroom. I want students to learn a lot from exploring it themselves”. Vanderburg stated.
Vanderburg thinks it’s important for students to explore their education by themselves for a better comprehension while she’s in their corner for that help if it’s needed.
“I think it’s really important that there’s a teacher that can show students what they are learning about but also knows how to let them be independently curious on their own,” said Vanderburg.
Vanderburg loves the project based learning and the passion here at Emerson High School.
“I am a teacher here at Emerson because I love the project based learning model and I believe that it has potential for a lot of student future in learning and I really like the concept of project based learning,” Vanderburg said. “Everyone seems so passionate here and that’s what I love so much about this school”.
Vanderburg is very interested in the motivation her students give to their studies and what they are passionate about when it comes to educational thinking and their lives afterwards. She wants to encourage her students by having them believe in themselves.
“Believe, believe in yourself”. Vanderburg said.
Vanderburg is here at Emerson because of her motivations and passion she gives to her department and the school itself. She wants nothing but the best for her students and wishes for them to do nothing but believe in themselves and their learning. In the end she hopes to contribute positively to the environment.
