Emerson High School welcomes the new librarian, Melody Landrum, who previously served as a math teacher. As the new librarian, Landrum hopes to bring new ideas and new strategies to the library.
As a child, Landrum already had a plan to be an English teacher, but long before she knew it the future had a different plan for her.
“Even growing up I really thought it was gonna be English for me till much later and I really wanted to work with lots of other teachers as well.” said Landrum. “I taught at Reedy in Frisco before this, and I taught math. I also taught every single subject in math at some point.”
Eventually, Landrum realized she wanted to further her use at school and do something more inclusive of all the students at Emerson.
“Well, I wanted to do more than just math. I wanted to work with all the students in the school.”
With the library already having a wide variety of books and opportunities, Landrum had many ideas that could be added to the library. One of those ideas was ‘Big Block of Cheese Day.’
‘Big Block of Cheese Day’ is a day that people who do not normally get to talk to the White House staff get to present their ideas to the staff about new things they want to add or change to the economy.
“I would love to do a ‘Big Block of Cheese Day’ with different people in the community. They can be teachers that you guys don’t normally see or even students who can teach something, so it’s like a showcase, but not directly related to each class necessarily.”
Landrum has a future goal to get Emerson students to be able to have an even wider variety of books for them to read.
“I would love to also get students connected and like to have some sort of relationship with the Frisco and Mckinney public library because we have students who technically live in both cities.”
Landrum loves the Emerson High School library and even with some of the things she wants to add, the library itself is one of the best libraries a Frisco isd school could have.
“I really love how many kids love to read here and like constantly getting books to check out.” Landrum said. “There are tons that read for fun, which really makes my heart happy.” It’s nice not having it be like, ‘come on guys, come see the library.’
