Emerson has a variety of classes and sports for students to choose from. This year, EHS welcomes a new golf coach and government teacher, Roderick Jacobs. Now that he is here, Jacobs is going to use his previous coaching and teaching experience to help the Emerson students.
Jacobs has been a coach and a teacher ever since 2010. Prior to working at EHS, Jacobs has worked at Wichita Falls and Plano Senior High School and has taught two different classes.
“I have been teaching since 2010 and I have taught P.E, I have taught U.S history, and I teach U.S government.”
Since currently teaches U.S government at EHS, he has a big goal for his government class.
“For goals I think that I want my students to be able to recognize and to be able to see how our government is, know how to function our government, and know how our government actually works.”
Coach Jacobs joined EHS based on a few reasons.
“A couple of factors which are knowing one of the coaches here, coaching golf here made my teaching a lot easier, and I wanted to try a new method of teaching here at Emerson.”
Coach Jacobs has one thing that he wishes for the Emerson golf team to accomplish.
“I do hope that our golf team wins every tournament. I want them to keep getting better, and hopefully go from districts to state.”
Coach Jacobs has also established a plan to build a relationship with the Emerson student body.
“There are a lot of activities I have been trying to go to like the football games. I am trying to do classroom karaokes for my own students to make them sing. I also do tutorials as well.”
Up to this point, Coach Jacobs has enjoyed his time at Emerson.
“So far everyone here has treated me nicely. The admin and the teachers here are really friendly, and kids here are like the kids at my other schools, but I do see a lot more involvement here at Emerson.”
Teaching government as well as coaching golf is tough, but with Coach Jacobs, students and student-athletes will surely succeed.
