Emerson High School welcomes a new addition to their staff, Evan Wilkins, who is excited to join and be part of the Emerson English department.
Wilkins’ passion for teaching was derived from a former teacher he had in his high school English class, with the book “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote leaving a lasting impression on him.
Wilkins said, “The teacher that made me want to be a teacher taught that book and taught that class so it holds a special place in my heart.”
After witnessing the direction his former district was going, Wilkins decided it no longer aligned with the goals he wanted to achieve during his teaching career.
“I had heard amazing things about Frisco. I knew from my first interview with Dr. Sommers and Ms. Rodriguez that this is where I wanted to be. It’s been the best decision I’ve made in a while.”
Now that Wilkins is in Frisco, he strives to set his students up for success.
“My goals for the year are to make sure my students have the best chance possible to succeed,” said Wilkins.
Along with his aspirations for the year, Wilkins has a plan of action for how he wants to ensure each student is given an opportunity for success.
“I want to provide an accepting learning environment: a place where they feel like their ideas matter,” Wilkins said.
As Wilkins works towards making Emerson a place where all his students can flourish he feels content with his choice of moving to a different district.
“I’m loving the people I work with and I’m loving my students and I’m happy to be here every single day.”
