Emerson High School has welcomed Kiara Kesler to English II to positively impact the students and the culture of the school. Kelser plans on teaching her students using project based learning.
Kesler knew that she wanted to become a teacher at a young age.
“I knew I wanted to teach starting in middle school. My AP english III teacher inspired me to become an English teacher, so she was the one that kind of put me on this path,” Kesler said.
After teaching english at McKinney High School for a year Kesler decided to move over to Emerson High School.
“On A days my first class is a meeting with the English III teachers and then my A days go by pretty fast. I wake up, prep myself mentally and emotionally for the day because it can be rough, but my 2B is usually another planning with Ms. Donovan.
Kelser has set a goal that she would like to to achieve by the end of this school year.
“The biggest goal I set for myself this year was better time management, I have always struggled especially at my old school with time management being able to give myself enough time to grade and things like that without having to do it outside the classroom and so I make sure I’m not wasting my time while I’m here and using it effectively,” Kesler said.
Kesler would like to use this year to better herself and to make it easier to do things around the school.
Kesler said, “ I would say some of my strengths are that I can connect with students because I’m so young and I also have a younger sister. Some of my freshmen are like, “Oh yeah that’s tough,” but when I use that language back at them I think that helps build that relationship.
Kesler is a very liked teacher and she can connect with her students while being personal and also keeping it fun and professional.
