The Maverick football team has claimed another title, going from Bi-District Champions, Area Champions, to now Regional Semifinal Champions. On Friday, November 24, the football team defeated the Wichita Falls Riders 55-42 and set the stage for an exciting Region Champion fight.
The victory against the Riders was a collective effort with outstanding performances from key players such as quarterback Mike Hawkins Jr. and wide receiver Kylen Evans. Hawkins played a pivotal role, passing for an impressive 208 yards and contributing five total touchdowns to the team’s success. Evans was another star on the field, catching four passes for 85 yards and scoring two touchdowns, adding to the Mavericks’ offensive firepower.
As the Mavericks gear up for the next round facing Colleyville Heritage, it presents an opportunity for redemption from last year’s disappointment when Emerson suffered an early exit in the first round of playoffs against Colleyville Heritage. The upcoming game is not only a chance to advance further in the playoffs but also an opportunity to overcome past setbacks and demonstrate the team’s growth and resilience.
The fight for Region champion will be held at the Ford Center this Friday, December 1 at 7 P.M. so be sure to wear jerseys and cheer on the Mavericks for round four against the Riders.
