From as early as summer 2023, HOSA competitors have been diligently studying medical content for a chance to win the district competition and advance to regionals. Testing competitors have the opportunity to compete in a variety of testing events including medical terminology, pathophysiology, medical math, nutrition, and many more.
HOSA testing competitors will participate in districts until Wednesday, November 29.
“In order to study for HOSA competitions I have been using the official textbook PDF and revising notes from last year.” Junior Ashwika Rajanikanth said. “I have also found that using websites like Quizlet and Quizizz are helpful to memorize things.”
When it comes to studying for a district competition, there will inevitably be some challenges students encounter.
“A challenge I faced was memorizing since it isn’t my strong suit,” Rajanikanth said. “I also had trouble finding the motivation to study because of all the school work from my AP classes.”
To help students overcome these challenges, HOSA officers have been providing students with resources to aid them.
“The HOSA officer team has been actively supporting competitors by sending out detailed emails packed with valuable resources and organizing personalized mentor sessions to monitor individual progress,” Testing Coordinator junior Urshitha Ravipati said. “Additionally, they’ve created an open study room for students to gather and foster a collaborative environment.”
Overall, many competitors believe that the experience of studying for their event helped them expand their knowledge in an area they are interested in.
“Studying for my HOSA event allowed me to grow as a student by teaching me valuable time management and study skills as well as increased my passion for the healthcare field.” Junior Samhitha Yeerelly said.
