The first few games of the season include a home game against Rock Hill High School on December 11 at 5:30 p.m. for junior varsity and 7:15 p.m. for varsity. The team has spent the past few months in preparation for the games. Junior Lauren Schad recounts their practice sessions.
“We are preparing for our upcoming games by working hard before school and during the period,” Schad said. “We are doing lots of drills that are fast paced and help us with moving up the field.”
This season is the first season with two teams: a varsity and a junior varsity.
“Since last year, the team has grown tremendously and we have become way more competitive and bonded together,” sophomore team member Landry Reil said.
The team’s growth surpasses just the games. Off the field activities have also had a major impact on the team’s unity.
“I am excited to make more memories throughout the season. I loved getting to go to tournaments because they were great bonding experiences last year,” Schad said. “We also had so many fun team dinners, parties, breakfast, volunteering activities, and other bonding activities.”
Building up and creating a team culture from scratch wasn’t an easy task when Emerson first opened up.
“When I joined the team, I wanted to be a part of a program that was building up from square one,” Schad said. “We went through a lot of challenges, but we have overcome them to get where we are today.”
Whatever challenges the team may have, their hard work is sure to help them solve it and make this season one to watch. Be sure to support our Maverick soccer players this season.
