Senior year is a rollercoaster for many students. As they work towards finishing high school strong and battling the stress of college applications, they all have one goal in mind, an acceptance letter from their dream university. This was accomplished sooner than expected for Senior Delanna Harper who recently committed to Abilene Christian University on an academic scholarship.
Harper talks about her experience being recruited for volleyball and what led her to choose ACU.
“It feels really great to be committed to ACU,” Harper said. “I am so excited to start the next chapter of my life and I think ACU is going to set me up for success in the future.”
Although Harper is overjoyed at the prospect of attending this university, she admits that she hadn’t thought about attending before this year.
“I had never thought of ACU before an opportunity opened up for volleyball,” Harper said. “My church camp counselor went to ACU and she was telling me about her time there, and how much she loved it, so I thought I should learn more about the school and program.”
Harper plans on balancing volleyball and academics using multiple resources offered at the university.
“I plan on using the athletic academic advisors a lot, especially in the first semester of my freshman year,” Harper said. “Volleyball also has required study hall hours to help keep everyone on track and up to date on their assignments which will help a lot.”
With a 4.0 GPA and a spot on the varsity volleyball team, Harper certainly worked hard for her college acceptance, however, she explains that she couldn’t have done it without her support system.
“My parents for sure are my biggest supporters and helped me get to the spot I am now,” Harper said. “Another person who had a big impact was my sister. She was, and still is, my rock through it all and I wouldn’t be here without her. Finally, Coach Wright and Coach Cecil played one of the biggest roles in my recruitment process because they always believed in me and pushed me to get better.”
With her drive for athletics and academics, Harper proves that she will be successful in her college endeavors and we are excited to see what she accomplishes in the future.
