On Friday, January 19, the Emerson High School Majestics drill team had a performance at Scoggins Middle School.
The Majestics went to Scoggins to show the incoming freshman and seventh graders what the Majestics do. The team aimed to recruit future Majestics dancers by performing a pom dance to “Heartbreaker,” choreographed by Coach Burch and Coach Whitfield. The coaches and dancers took multiple weeks making sure the dance was clean and that the dancers were together on every part. When the team entered the floor there were twenty-five dancers.
Freshman dancer Addison Erwin said, “A part that was hard to clean was the ending because of all the intricate details in our footwork and having our arms be in the correct placement and all together.”
The team, directed by junior Faith Quave, danced in sync. Burch and Whitt choreographed an intricate turning and jumping section that included toe touches, firebirds, and turning discs. The dancers were wearing navy blue sparkly dresses and had blue and silver poms.
A seventh grade audience member, Addie Taylor said, “One of my favorite parts of the dance was the turning section because it was very clean and got the audience and I excited when watching you guys turn all together.”
