On January 23, the Emerson Mavericks’ boys varsity basketball team played a game at Liberty High School, tallying their 13-11 win record. Since then, they have won against Heritage High School and lost against Walnut Grove High School, bringing their record to 14-12.
The Mavericks defeated the Redhawks by a score of 75-54. All five starters left their mark on the game, but the key players of the victory were senior Robert Black, sophomore Keonte Greybear, and senior Isaiah Battee.
Black recorded 20 points, two steals, and five rebounds. Greybear recorded 18 points, four steals, and two blocks.
“Our team played really well as a team,” said senior Zach Ford. “Overall, we all just came together and were moving the ball around really well, shooting the ball very well, and defending.”
Black and Battee set new season highs in points scored, while Greybear set a new season high in blocks. Battee recorded 17 points and six rebounds.
“We did good. We did what we were supposed to do. Now we gotta focus on the next one,” said Battee.
