With April just around the corner, Maverick Leadership has been busy planning for one of the most anticipated school events this year: Prom.
Prom this year will be on April 6 from 7-10 pm at The Cotton Mill in McKinney. Leadership has officially announced the theme for this year which is “Enchanted Evening,” and tickets can be purchased on Online School Fees for $100.
The leadership officers have been spending the past few months planning everything from the music, decorations, venue and so much more. Arianna Trotter, Senior Class Co-President, has been tackling the daunting task of planning for these past few months.
“As far as planning the prom, it’s very booked and busy and hectic,” Trotter said. “However, we’re super excited for people to see the end results. The theme is really nice and we’re also getting really excited for decorations.”
With this year’s prom being Emerson’s first ever senior prom, planning the event has also been a bittersweet experience for many senior leadership officers.
“Earlier this year, Dr. Sommers came to talk to the seniors in leadership and she was telling us to design the graduation announcements,” Trotter said. “It kind of just hit me that ‘Oh my gosh, this is it. It’s almost over.”
In terms of setting senior traditions for future classes, leadership has also been trying to plan other senior events alongside prom and graduation.
“We’re starting to plan powderpuff,” Trotter said. “We’re also trying to get a senior bonfire. That’s something we know the senior class really wants. Closer to graduation, we’d like to do a senior sunset just to commemorate the end of our year.”
This year’s prom will be setting the standard for future generations of Emerson seniors and leadership is dedicated to hopefully setting a high standard.
“I can’t wait for everyone to realize that this is Emerson’s first prom,” Trotter said. “We really want this to be the best that it can be. First is the best.”
