As the Maverick Tennis team kicks off its spring season, it marks the beginning of the seniors’ final games. While there are still a few months ahead, the seniors reminisce about the countless memories they’ve collected during their time with the team over the years.
One of the most memorable parts of tennis throughout the years would be the effort put in every practice.
“I would spend about 7.5 hours to 15 hours per week practicing tennis despite harsh weather conditions,” Senior Longzhi Jin said. “Because of those efforts, I was able to win a match against Lebanon Trail which is now one of my best memories.”
Other than practicing hours every week, Jin will remember his close relationship with his teammates.
“My favorite part other than actually playing is getting to bond with the team,” Jin said. “You get really close cheering for each other and spending all that time together.”
Senior Ananya Mirchandani has mixed feelings about leaving the team.
“I’m very sentimental and try not to think too much about it since it’s been such a huge part of my life,” Mirchandani said. “I would say it’s sad like most things in senior year, and I feel nothing good about leaving the team.”
Despite the bittersweet feelings, Mirchandani has her fair share of memorable moments that she’ll cherish after she leaves.
“Every practice feels so unforgettable but if I had to pick, it would be when we went to region my sophomore year,” said Mirchandani. “The whole team went on a three day trip and it was super fun watching each other compete and playing Mario Kart in the hotel rooms.”
Additionally, the underclassmen are thankful for the seniors giving them advice to play tennis better or supporting them emotionally.
“The seniors mean a lot to me and the friendships I created with them is something I will always cherish,” Sophomore Malishka Patnaik said. “They helped me make a lot of tough decisions whether it was in school or in tennis and they have guided me in everything.”
The Emerson Maverick Tennis team has bonded through thick and thin, and despite the seniors soon starting a new chapter in their lives, the team will cherish their collective memories forever.
