The start of fall symbolizes change, comfort, and abundance, but in New York City, fall means fashion. 

On Sept. 6, New York Fashion week declared its official start with brands such as Brandon Maxwell, Ralph Lauren, Libertine and Grace Ling taking the stage, or better yet, the runway. 

Brandon Maxwell spring summer 25 Collection Highlights

Black, white, navy blue, and pastel blues and pinks carried the main color palette of the Brandon Maxwell spring summer 2025 collection, similar to many other collections this season.

Numerous designs featured ruffles; whether they were showcased as long belts or skirts, this element added an interesting pop to the silhouette.

Jackets also added an interesting dynamic to the silhouette as they added a more boxy look to an otherwise long or skin-tight outfit.

Opinion

Overall, this season’s collection was mediocre. While the designer did experiment with a few materials such as silk and leather, this collection did not stick out compared to others this week. Additionally, many of the elements such as sheer skirts and belts that cinch the waist were featured last season and, therefore, seemed repetitive.

Ralph Lauren spring summer 25 Collection Highlights 

Hamptons, NY was the location for the Ralph Lauren spring summer 2025 show. It’s safe to say that the collection was very much inspired by the coastal, old money feel of the Hamptons as it featured a variety of beachwear looks of blue tones, both deep and muted, as well as white and brown. 

The accessories in this collection featured prominent silver jewelry and belts, brown bags and belts, and wide sunglasses. 

Towards the end of the show, the color palette completely shifted from more muted tones of white and blue to include vibrant greens, yellows, and oranges as well as more vibrant blues in addition to navy. 

Opinion

Much like Brandon Maxwell, this show too was subpar with many parallels being found between last season; however, the overlap is more focused here between this collection and the looks in Ralph Lauren’s very own spring summer 2024. Many of the repeating elements included the beaded necklaces, sheer skirts, and double bags.

Libertine spring summer 25 Collection Highlights

Libertine’s spring summer 2025 collection was unique compared to other brands featuring collections this week. With the coral pieces, floral elements, and colorful color palette, it’s easy to tell that this collection was inspired by nature.

The recurrence of certain prints were featured many times in this collection. While many of the pieces that featured these prints were matching, they each had their own distinct silhouette. 

The accessories in this collection were particularly interesting as many of the looks included uniquely shaped hats and funky glasses. 

Opinion

Overall, Libertine seems to be a brand always thinking outside the box when it comes to their designs. This was reflected in the looks this season as they stood out from other brands who’s pieces and color palettes seemed to overlap.

Grace Ling spring summer 25 Collection Highlights 

Lastly, Grace Ling was another brand with a more unique collection as it featured looks that were contemporary and edgy.

Opinion

Many of the looks reflected exquisite craftsmanship and thoughtful styling. So far, Grace Ling has been the most well thought out collection due to the carefully curated components.

Although only half of New York Fashion Week has gone by, the collections brought forward by designers this season seem to be extremely promising. I look forward to what the rest of this week has in store.
