A new wave of Maverick leaders take on roles of senior class co-presidents. Senior Co-Presidents Kensei Nyguen, 12, and Chole Jung, 12, are the voices for the first graduating class that have gone through all four grade levels at Emerson. From managing senior events to managing funds, the two class presidents are major contributors in Maverick Leadership, and are looking forward to leaving behind a lasting legacy.
Jung, originally from California, never expected to be in a leadership role. She had previously held the role of her school’s freshman class president, and she was surprised to have enjoyed it.
“I didn’t expect myself to enjoy an experience where I actually got out of my comfort zone,” Jung said. “So after I moved to a new city I decided I have to try that again.”
Similarly, Nguyen ran for class president out of his excitement to make Emerson a better place for seniors and classes to come.
“I really enjoyed improving our school and seeing the other students be really happy and excited about the events that we put on,” Nguyen said. “So I thought I’d have a higher sense of responsibility, and become the senior class president … and do more for our grade level.”
Nguyen has played a major role in planning senior activities such as Senior Sunrise, which was the first official senior event of the school year. Outside of his senior class president duties, he enjoys volunteering.
“I help kids that come from Japan with some of their homework or with their English,” Nyguen said. “I also volunteer for the Stonebridge Ranch Community Association to help pull off events.”
Collectively, both Nguyen and Jung make a powerful leadership duo because of their passion for helping others. Jung’s roles on the pep rally, homecoming, and theme week committees demonstrate her ability to work with others to achieve a common goal.
“My favorite part about being senior class president is probably surrounding myself with young, driven, passionate … individuals who like to be involved with promoting and establishing their school culture,” Jung said.
