One of the crucial elements when it comes to theater productions is the role of the technical director, who guides thespians to bring out their performances with the best technical support possible. As the new school year begins, Emerson Theater welcomes Benjamin Loub as its new technical director. His passion began when he took his first theater class in middle school, and he fell in love with the magic it brings to people. This is his third year of teaching, and he looks forward to what new perspectives will be in this year’s upcoming shows.
As of now, the fall play, One Man, Two Guvnors, and the winter musical, Guys and Dolls have been announced, with the spring UIL play still to come. Loub is excited to see what new creative angles this year’s thespians will bring to this year’s lineup of productions.
“I’m excited to see what unique perspective the technicians can bring to all the shows we do,” Loub said. “They’re already coming up with some really cool ideas for One Man, Two Guvnors, and I know it’s going to be even better for Guys and Dolls.”
Beyond his excitement for the stage, he has also noticed the positive spirit around the school. He is delighted to work in a place that shares joy in all areas of the campus.
“Everyone seems really happy to be at Emerson, and so it’s a great, positive environment,” Loub said.
While Loub loves his job and the environment in which he gets to do it, he also takes pleasure in other hobbies outside of theater.
“I’m a really big runner. I try to run everyday, and…I also enjoy cooking, ” Loub said. “I really like to sing, and I like singing in front of people, so it would be super cool to perform in front of a super large crowd.”
Aside from achieving his singing desires, Loub wants students to find a balance between participating in non-academic activities and spending their time doing things they are genuinely passionate about.
“I just want everyone to enjoy their time here. That’s why we do extracurriculars,” Loub said. ”While you’re learning, you’re also having fun. I want to make sure everybody is enjoying themselves when they’re in this space especially.”
The theater department looks forward to what innovation and creativity Loub will bring, and his open-minded approach will inspire students to explore their talents and passions with enthusiasm. Loub is excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see all the growth both on and off the stage.
