At 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday, Boba City was fairly empty with only a couple customers. The shop was well-lit and contained a clean seating area next to large windows. To match the name of the shop, a wall to the right of the ordering area featured a black and white city design. At the center of the design, in a circular frame was an image of city buildings in dark blue tones. The overall shop consisted of a modern minimalist aesthetic containing primarily whites and grays, making the city design on the wall really pop out, drawing the eyes of the customers.
I was excited to give Boba City a try due to its high rating. On the Saturday that I visited, the two employees working the shop opened two minutes late. While placing their orders, the customers were informed that if they wanted their drink with tapioca, it would be a 15 minute wait in order to allow the tapioca to cook. My plan was to order my drink with tapioca, but I did not have the time for such a wait. Unfortunately, this forced me into finding a different option. After placing my order without tapioca I received my drink rather quickly, however, despite the friendliness of the employees, expecting customers to wait 15 minutes for a menu item due to a lack of proper preparation is not very good customer service.
I ordered a taro milk tea with popping lychee for the price of $6.25. The drink was too milky for my liking, and over one third of the cup consisted of just ice. I liked the popping lychee and taro flavor, unfortunately the milkiness did detract from the taste of the drink.
Overall, Boba City had a pleasant atmosphere, a lot of natural lighting, and a quick ordering process. It was definitely worth trying, but due to my experience with customer service and the fact that my drink differed from my preferences, I was a little disappointed. I would, however, consider going back on a different day and ordering a different drink. One day and one drink cannot entirely determine the quality of a business, so I would love to give Boba City one more shot.
