Located off the corner of Custer and Stacy Rd., Salad and Go immediately catches the eye of any wandering passerby, with its bright orange and lime trims against the smoky gray walls. The drive through line, the main option for ordering besides delivery, is always bustling despite Salad and Go’s quick service. I had heard many raving reviews about the taste, price point, and the convenience of location, so I was curious to see if it lived up to its expectations.
Founded in 2013 in Gilbert, Arizona, by Tony and Roushan Christofellis, it was later sold to Charlie Morrison in 2020, former Wingstop CEO. Morrison became Salad and Go’s CEO in 2022, and since then has rapidly expanded the chain, which now operates more than 100 locations spread across Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma.
The menu has many options other than salad, including breakfast burritos, wraps made out of the contents of the salads, occasional seasonal soups and drinks ranging from lemonades to coffee. I wanted to try the very thing they’re known for: salads, so I ordered the Roasted Autumn for $7.29. It has a variety of ingredients, including sweet potatoes, cranberries, brussel sprouts, candied pecans, and chicken or tofu. Salad and Go lets you customize your meal however you like, so I ended up getting the chicken and removing the mushrooms. They also offer a build-your-own option for pickier eaters.
Overall, the meal was delicious; the potatoes were sweet, which complimented the slightly sour vinaigrette, the pecans, which I don’t normally like, were sugary, and the lettuce was crisp. The wait time wasn’t long, so it was pleasantly surprising that the salad was freshly made. Although there was no delay once I ordered, there was a decent amount of traffic around the restaurant, as its location made it hard to enter and exit the parking lot. Since the drive-through is the only option for ordering at the restaurant, I didn’t see the inside of the building. However, the outside was spotless, with no trash on the sidewalk. Upbeat music was projecting from the speakers for an added bonus.
The experience was enjoyable because the meal was so delicious and the staff was efficient., Even though there was a struggle entering the drive through, that just shows how many people in McKinney appreciate Salad and Go. The staff was efficient and friendly, so if anyone is looking for a healthy, appetizing option, give Salad and Go a try. It won’t disappoint!
