The cast and crew of Emerson Theatre Company’s fall play, “One Man, Two Guvnors,” will have their first performance on Oct. 17.
“One Man, Two Guvnors” is the first theater production of the year. Following two days of auditions, the students on the company list came to the auditorium after school for a read through.
“I feel like everybody came in in a good mood and was excited to get to know the show,” Technical Director Benjamin Loub said.
Alongside Artistic Director Libby Rotan, Loub will be bringing this script to life in his first year as Emerson’s technical director. Loub is also excited to direct Emerson Theatre’s first play ‘in the thrust,’ meaning with audience on three sides. Students learned more about the comedy as they read the script.
Audience members should expect the show to be, “Suspenseful, funny, and chaotic,” Patrick Kuypers, 11, said.
The play incorporates improvisation, physical stunts, and slapstick comedy. There is also a bit of audience participation. As the down-on-his-luck protagonist, Kuypers is heavily involved in this aspect of the show.
“The audience gets to interact with the show a lot,” Kuypers said. “The audience plays a bigger role in this show than any other Emerson show we’ve done before.”
The Emerson Theatre Company encourages students and members of the community to join them for “One Man, Two Guvnors” from Oct. 17 through 19 at 7:00 p.m. For more information and tickets, go to emersontheatre.org or check out @emersonhstheatre on Instagram.
Loub said, “Come support the arts at your school! We just want to see as many people in the audience as possible and share our hard work with the rest of the school.”
