Emerson kicked off the beginning of senior week with the first pep rally of the final quarter, which took place on Friday, March 28. The pep rally featured a plethora of exciting announcements and events such as the spring sports news, prom court introductions, a mattress relay game and performances from the school’s Kpop, Desi dance, cheerleaders and Majestics teams.
The pep rally began celebrating the recent victories and accomplishments of the spring sports teams. The girl’s varsity softball team was announced as they won their final game against Heritage High School with a score of 27-1. The baseball team was also recognized as they prepare for a home non-conference game against Van Alstyne on Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. Lastly, both the golf and track teams will be advancing to and competing in their respective district tournaments.
Despite the sports-oriented introduction, the center focus of this pep rally was the upcoming prom, which will be held from 7 p.m to 10 p.m on Saturday, April 5 at the Cotton Mill. After the brief relay of the date and location the dance’s court contenders for the coveted prom queen and king titles were announced. Seniors Lauren Short, Caroline Dove and Sofia Wachholz were nominated for prom queen, and seniors Christian Lyons, Rintaro Shimizu and Reshawn Edwards were nominated for prom king. Voting for prom king and queen voting takes place on April 3 and 4 during Mav Time, and the winner will be announced at 8:45 p.m. at the prom.

The pep rally continued with a performance by Emerson’s Desi dance group. Desi, a term referring to South Asian culture, encompasses various classical Indian dance styles that highlight the dancer’s unique expressions through intricate hand and foot movements.
Emerson’s K-pop Dance Crew performed next. K-pop, a global pop music genre originating in South Korea, is known for its dynamic choreography, which blends elements of hip-hop, jazz, street dance, and contemporary styles.

Proceeding the dance performances, a game was set to commence with five elected teams: Prom court boys, prom court girls, the softball team, the baseball team, and the golf team. Each team was instructed to alternate their players as they took turns running and diving onto a mattress, using the force of their weight landing on the surface in order to slide it across the gym floor. The team that was able to make it to the end of the gym and back with their mattress would win. Each group was met with cheers and outcry as they tried their best to maneuver the bed to and from the finish line, however in the end, the prom court boys team were the most efficient with their mattress sliding method and won the game.

The pep rally also featured performances from the Color Guard, Majestics and cheer teams. The Majestics team recently became national champions after winning 1st place at the Crowd Pleasers Orlando Contest. Varsity Color Guard is currently competing in the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
