Every year, as prom season comes around, a special tradition is celebrated. Promposals started in 2001 in America and are a heartwarming way to get asked to prom. Normally, proposals are arranged with a poster, treats, music, flowers or candy.
Some of our Mavericks take on this tradition with their creativity and create a proposal that will never be forgotten. Jackson Kochalka, 12, and Carter Canfield, 12, have created thoughtful promposals to ask their girlfriends Sofia Wachholz, 12, and Saniya Allen, 12, to prom.

“I knew she liked Tiff’s Treats and I had never gotten it for her before, so I knew she would like it,” Kochalka said. “She also loves chocolate, so getting those for her was a no-brainer.”
After being together for three years and six months, there have been many homecoming proposals before prom, so this last proposal had to be the best one yet.
“My steps were to prepare the poster and get the cookies,” Kochalka said. “She wanted to ensure she looked pretty, so I had to do it before we went out on a date.”
Kolchalka mentioned that the whole process took an hour with preparing the poster, getting the flowers and waiting on the cookies to arrive. Proposals can go from getting asked with treats or getting asked with something that has a specific meaning behind it.
“My idea was to make a poster about flowers and get her favorite flowers,” Canfield said. “I drew Saniya a picture of her favorite flowers that she has always loved and I’m giving her them with the poster.”

After being together for two years and five months, making the last big proposal something to remember by using a special and meaningful detail that means a lot to Allen.
“I just needed a poster board, Cricut cutter, construction paper, glue, fake flowers and markers.” said Canfield.
The whole process took two hours to be able to print everything out, glue all the pieces on the poster and make the flowers.
Remembering the small details about someone you love or someone you are friends with can make a small moment so memorable. Promposals are designed to showcase the love and importance behind how a small gesture with a poster, treats, music, candy or flowers can create a long lasting memory.
