The varsity Majestics hosted their annual Spring Show on April 25 and 26 in the auditorium. It included performances by dance classes, color guard, cheer and other student-led clubs such as Mav Krew and Desi dance. The Majestics performed small group dances choreographed by the dance officers, award-winning competition performances, solos, duets, an intro and an elaborate closer to conclude the show.
The theme of the performance was “Dream, Believe, Shine,” highlighting the wide variety of talent across the campus and honoring a successful year, including the Majestics winning Nationals. The team worked on dances all year, but started officially preparing for the spring show when they returned from nationals.
“The Majestics put a lot of work from day one this year into building our technique and building up the dances, and I think it really showed [because of] how professional … the spring show performance was,” Drill Team Director Amanda Burch said.
Performances showcased different styles into the show, from high-energy routines to slower, fluid ones. Groups put a lot of effort into the technique and performance quality of the dancing, but even more into building team atmospheres of love and trust.
“Throughout the year we’ve built … that culture and it just improved every single day that we’ve seen each other, in practice [and] outside of school, and it led up to spring show,” sophomore lieutenant Jade Bontron said.
The show’s success reflected months of rehearsal and planning, as well as the relationships formed. From early-morning rehearsals to late-night practices, groups collaborated to ensure each routine was executed to perfection.
“We have said all year how we want to make sure that we are a family first … so we want to make sure we’re putting as much work into our culture as we put into dancing,” Burch said. “With a stronger bond between each other, our team itself becomes stronger, and then we can grow together.”
For many seniors, this was their final performance with their respective groups. The show was bittersweet, as it concluded years of experiences with fellow members.
“My favorite part was dancing with the team … and getting to cherish those last moments with our seniors, knowing that we all [feel] really good about everything,” Bontron said.
Although the seniors are moving on to another era of their lives, they’re leaving with core memories and connections that will last years. The opportunity to see each other shine and develop into confident dancers was what made the spring show so meaningful and successful.
“I got to be [a part of] a group of people that I met in the beginning of the year and got to grow with and [see] how each one of them grew,” Jacqueline Ramirez, 10, said.
