Welcome back, Mavericks!

After a long, restful summer for all, we are back for the best year yet in Maverick history! Whether you’ve been at Emerson for the past year or are a new student, we all share the privilege of creating new legacies and memories that will last forever in this building. As we step into our new school year, I am honored to serve as your 2025-2026 Editor-in-Chief and thrilled to kick off the start of The Charge’s publication. I am more than proud to introduce our 2025-2026 staff for The Charge. Fun fact: This year, we have the highest number of staff members in The Charge’s history!

As a member who has been serving The Charge for the last two years, the most rewarding experience has been being able to see the monumental growth of the school newspaper. Welcoming new staff members and saying goodbye to graduating members in our team, I’ve learned that we are always given many opportunities to pave a new way forward to grow the newspaper. This year’s staff members will bring out the best ideas yet in the team and shape the newspaper in a unique, innovative way.

Yena Nam, The Charge Editor-in-Chief
Yena Nam is a senior at Emerson High School and serves as the Editor-in-Chief for The Charge. This is her third year in Newspaper, and she looks forward to projecting new ideas and bringing out the best in the team. You can find her working in the newspaper classroom almost every day of the week, but other than that, she loves to spend time with her friends, watch movies with her family, and make five different online versions of her schedule. After high school, she plans to dig deeper into her interests in community service, design, and child welfare.
Giulia Tolar
Giulia Tolar, Adviser
Giulia Tolar is the Audio/Video Production, Journalism, Newspaper, and Photojournalism teacher at Emerson High School. She is in her sixth year of teaching and third year as a Maverick. She holds her B.S. in Elementary Education from Grove City College, her M.S. in Educational Psychology from the University of North Texas, and she is pursuing her graduate certificate as an Educational Diagnostician from Dallas Baptist University. She has taught fourth grade ELA and Social Studies, sixth grade World Cultures, and eighth grade US History prior to her time at Emerson. Some of her favorite hobbies are reading on her Kindle, baking, and spending time with friends and family. She also loves to travel with her husband! Together, they own and operate a wedding videography business and a photography business.  As Adviser for Unbranded Media, Giulia works to facilitate a team of student leaders to archive and broadcast the accomplishments and memories of Emerson Mavericks.
