In a world full of DJ’s, nothing beats the dreamy mood that jazz brings to an event. This year, the Homecoming dance will also have a live jazz portion, performed by Emerson Choir and organized by Maverick Leadership. This addition aims to offer students a unique experience while supporting Emerson’s fine arts.
In order to bring this idea into fruition, many sectors of Emerson are working together. Although initially met with some minor setbacks, Leadership was dedicated to their vision. Luckily, Emerson and its students are bountiful in talent. Now, Emerson Choir is partnering with Maverick Leadership to have live jazz at the dance. Members of both organizations believe that showcasing choir members’ talents will not only provide a unique musical experience but also highlight the school’s commitment to the performing arts.
“Of course it’s going to be fun for the other students, but I’m excited to show how good we are,” said three year choir member Cameron Johnson, 11.
In a school that is so new, there are always precedents to be set and new traditions to be started. Leadership uses this fact to make sure that all events are memorable and something that people will want to experience again. Live music is an experience that is versatile and noteworthy, a tradition that will make Emerson stand out. With such a high profile of fine arts, and such a dedicated Leadership team, it is definitely a doable goal to have live music become an annual attraction at dances.
“I think this could be the beginning of tradition. We have so many good music and art programs at our school,” said Sundereswaran. “Why not use them?”
As Emerson grows older, Maverick Leadership continues to outdo themselves with every event. Leadership aims to make this Homecoming dance more immersive while continuing to ensure the quality of the themed decorations. By appealing to all five senses, this dance is meant to fully embrace the theme to create a new world for the attendees to step into.
“3D things you can touch, feel, and hear… it’s just more appealing,” said Maverick Leadership member Grace Sundereswaran, 12.
As the date approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be an unforgettable night. The combination of live jazz and fun decorations creates a unique environment that Emerson students won’t forget and certainly won’t want to miss. Mark your calendar for the Homecoming dance on Sept. 20!
