Homecoming season is a time full of traditions and trends. On Aug. 26, each class nominated four students to be on Homecoming court, while seniors nominated eight. Homecoming court is a title that recognizes students for their overall behavior and attitude. When choosing students for court, students consider peers who model excellence and show the qualities Emerson values, including integrity, curiosity, respect, and honesty. When nominated in the Homecoming court, nominees have many obligations ,including participating in the dress-up days for spirit week and attending the Community Pep rally, the Homecoming Pep rally and the Homecoming football game. Nominees are also required to participate in at least two lunch games.
Homecoming Court is a big task that is not taken lightly, with months of planning and organizing to make choosing Homecoming Court a smooth process. However, Leadership has had its fair share of challenges this year.
“Our stuff [didn’t] come in on time. We had little trophies we were planning on giving them the day they found out, but unfortunately, they came a day later,” Emma Heinke, 12, a member of the Homecoming court committee, said.
Leadership wants this Homecoming to be a fun tradition full of memorable moments.
“I want people to remember dressing up and participating in the games. I feel like because it is at the beginning of the year, it drives them to want [participate in other activities] later in the year.” Heinke said
Homecoming is a well-beloved tradition that many students look forward to, but lots of people don’t understand the whole process that occurs behind the scenes. It’s a fun way to advertise the show and gain traction towards the dance. Make sure to cheer on your student nominees at the Community pep rally!
