Choir puts on a show
On Monday, October 25, the choir performed several songs in the auditorium for their first concert.
“We’ve been preparing since August,” choir director Mr. Jennings said. “We’ve rehearsed our songs in school and sometimes after school.”
Under direction of Mr. Jennings, the choir director, choir students have been preparing for three months.
“Mr. Jennings is one of the best people I’ve met here in Emerson,” freshman soprano Cynthia said. “He’s so understanding and I could approach him with things choir-related and non-choir-related. He’s always so encouraging.”
Show Choir is a select group of female choir students. Unlike in the regular choir, they perform pop songs. They had their own performance at the concert.
“We performed ‘Bridges’ by Fifth Harmony,” freshman Cynthia said. “The song says a lot about female empowerment. It’s so fitting because it’s a nine-girl choir and we’re all really close. The song is about coming together as one.”
Although it was the first choir concert in this school, most of the students had no anxious feelings.
“I wasn’t nervous, I definitely felt excited,,” Cynthia said. “It hasn’t been difficult, it’s not like we’ve been cramming everything in during just this week. We’ve been preparing since school started.”
The successful concert knocked off one of the director’s goals, but there are still more to achieve.
“I have several goals this year,” Mr. Jennings said. “One is to recruit more students into the program.”
Though it may seem starting with a small number in the choir department is a negative, there are benefits to this.
“Our choir is very significant because there aren’t too many people in the choir department this year,” Cynthia said. “We’re here to make history.”
