Have you ever wanted to experience fresh ingredients, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere all at once? I highly recommend Mi Cocina, a Tex-Mex restaurant with several locations in the DFW area. Founded in Dallas in 1991 by Bob McNutt, Ray Washburne, Dick Washburne, and Tex-Mex veteran Michael “Mico” Rodriguez, Mi Cocina began in a small 12 table space with the goal of providing upscale Tex-Mex food made with high quality ingredients and professional, welcoming service.

When I visited Mi Cocina, located in Plano, I immediately felt a sense of warmth and invitation. The high ceilings and warm color tones made the space luxurious yet comfortable, and the large, organized kitchen added to the professional atmosphere. Since we visited during off-peak hours, there were only a few families and couples dining, which made the experience relaxed. A friendly host quickly found us a table and provided menus.

Our waiter provided excellent service throughout our visit. He brought warm, crunchy chips and fresh salsa, then took our drink orders. I ordered Diet Dr. Pepper. Many restaurants don’t have Diet Dr. Pepper on fountain drinks. I was nervous whether they had it or not. But our waiter brought a can and poured it for me, which I really appreciated. Later, when my brother finished his Diet Coke, our waiter immediately brought a refill for my brother and joked, “I brought two because you finished so fast,” which made us all laugh. It was my favorite part of my experience.

We ordered shrimp brochette, tacos mi tierra, chicken fajita, and brisket quesadillas. Every dish was fresh and delicious. The tacos were perfectly cooked, with flavorful beef, fresh tortillas, and balanced pico de gallo. I always order tacos mi tierra because the combination of beef, tortillas is so good. My favorite side was the pico de gallo. The tomatoes, onions and cilantro were so fresh, and the flavors were amazing.

Overall, Mi Cocina was excellent, earning a 10/10 because Mi Cocina consistently delivers a high quality experience that balances flavor, comfort, and friendly service. My family thoroughly enjoyed it here. I would highly recommend Mi Cocina to anyone looking for a new Tex-Mex spot.
