The Majestics audition season is approaching quickly. In order to audition, students must attend the informational meeting on Feb. 18 in the dance room F107. This meeting includes all of the fees and each participant will receive an audition packet and the code of conduct with all information needed to audition. Next, students must attend the clinic in the Auditorium from March 9 to 11 as this is where the material is taught and is a good opportunity to perfect audition pieces while getting some help from current Majestics. The official audition date is March 12, where auditioners are required to perform both splits, a double turn, and turns and seconds, as well as a calypso trick. They need to be able to perform both right and left leaps and a Russian or toe touch. Majestics also need the ability to pick up choreography somewhat quickly as they consistently learn new routines throughout the year. To become a Majestic there are lots of time requirements, like different events and performances throughout the school year.
Every year, Majestics who wish to return to the team have to re-audition, and with both competition season and audition season occurring so close to each other, a common misconception is that this time is stressful and difficult.
“Its actually refreshing. During the contest, [there] … is lots of stress and lots of responsibility, but auditions feel more relaxed [and] the vibes just change a lot,” Majestic, Natalie Wilson, 10, said.
Returning members usually view auditions differently compared to their first year.
“For my freshman year, I was extremely nervous with the new environment, but when it came time for my sophomore year, I felt way more confident having been on the team for a year,” Majestic, Faith Bober, 10 said.
For those who are trying out for the team, it is a whole new experience that most can find intimidating at first.
“Do not be afraid to ask questions [and], work hard. If you work really hard you can get to where you want. I was not a dancer before starting the team but doing those things really helped and in result I made the team,” Wilson said .
When auditioning, standing out is important in different ways including both dancing and presentation.
“What makes someone stand out is definitely [their face]” Wilson said. “And making eye contact with the judge is so big and shows off [their] abilities as a dancer,” Wilson said.
Although this whole process seems difficult, the experiences are worth all of the time.
“I really made some core memories, especially during competition and when we went together to Disney as a team, so the work pays off,” Wilson said.
Becoming a Majestic is a lot of work but it makes up with the memories and friendships as well. Make sure to attend the upcoming mandatory meeting and pick up all of the forms,if Majestics seems interesting, students should attend the mandatory meetings, pick up the forms from the dance room, F107, and see coaches Amanda Burch or Holly Whitfield with any questions.
