For seniors, Prom is one of the biggest events of the year. Maverick Leadership is in charge of everything that goes into Prom from choosing the theme to decor and promoting the event. Prom takes place April 11 so it is a quick turn around time from spring break. Prom isn’t Leadership’s only focus as they are in charge of Wish Week and other school events. They have a specific committee in charge of all Prom planning. Another committee that puts a lot of work pre-prom is the prom court committee. They work on votes and nominations, and the king and queen are to be announced during prom. All of Leadership puts all of their effort into creating a dance that will make unforgettable memories and their purpose is to plan efficiently so it is not as stressful for the committee.
Leadership had a head start into their early planning, so now they are dedicated to finalizing details before the big day arrives. Many members of Leadership toured different venues earlier before deciding on the Cotton Mill. Students helped influence choices, planned color schemes and all aspects of the theme. These discussions were mainly student-led and the committee scheduled their time into specific areas.
Between the committee they have specific tasks they need to focus on. “We split into small teams like decor, music, tickets, logistics and gave the groups clear instructions on roles and deadlines to stay on track,”Prom Committee member Bianca Wachholz, 11, said.
Leadership has had a really good time planning this event because of the amount of freedom they were granted to make those decisions.
“I really enjoyed collaborating with everyone and brainstorming ideas. We got to make decisions and watch everything come together step by step,” Wachholz said.
The committee’s goal was to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone attending. They wanted something for everyone.
“We’ll have blackjack and poker tables with real dealers for everyone to play, we chose this because the senior class is a big fan of cards and is super competitive,” Prom Committee member Fariha Shadiq, 12, said.
Leadership has also included lots of new unique ideas to incorporate this year into the dance.
“We have a make your own sundae and donut bar with toppings because we know most seniors get dinner outside of the dance anyways, and everyone loves a sweet treat,” Shadiq said.
Leadership has put months of planning ahead to make this event special for all seniors who attend. After months of planning they are proud to present this event to close off their last year of school. Both the committee and Leadership teacher Erin Livingston have put in lots of effort to this event. The Gatsby Gala is an event you do not want to miss. Come see all of the well-thought out planning on April 11 at the Cotton Mill tickets can be purchased at the door for $120.
