Prom King is a prestigious title, one that only few will hold in their lifetimes. John Pacheco, 12, was awarded the highly anticipated title for the 2025-2026 school year on Saturday night on April 11 at the Cotton Mill. Prom King is a huge honor for the recipient, as it represents an individual selected by their peers who has shown leadership throughout their high school career and been someone for others to look up to. For Emerson students, that was Pacheco.
“[I] feel so honored and blessed to know that the students and staff of our school chose me to represent the entire school,” Pacheco said. “It’s truly an amazing feeling knowing that everyone around me trusts and admires me to hold such an important role.”
Pacheco is thoroughly involved in the school’s community, acting as the captain of the Varsity soccer team and a member of Maverick Leadership, so it’s no surprise that he is a fan favorite.
“Emerson … has … [helped] me come out of my shell and [find] the person I truly am,” Pacheco said. “The community is so welcoming and fun [and has allowed] me to have so many good memories over the years where I can truly be myself without the fear of being judged.”
Pacheco also makes a point to try to make everyone feel loved, helping out whenever he can and bringing others into the community he so cherishes.
“You never know what someone else is going through, and a tiny action can have a huge impact on someone, either positively or negatively, so you always need to have some sympathy!” Pacheco said.
As a member of the prom committee, he and the rest of the class have worked tirelessly to ensure students enjoy their special day, utilizing a strategy known as backwards planning to maximize organization. Now, as Prom King, Pacheco deserves to bask in the glory and celebrate the rest of the year!
“[Receiving] Prom King has been an amazing finishing touch to my senior year,” Pacheco said. “Obviously, the recognition and honor is an amazing way to end my high school career, but the dance and the night as a whole is the most memorable.”
Pacheco’s dedication to making everything top-tier for students led the way to a spectacular prom. His desire to constantly benefit the community shone through and was what made him Prom King material.
“It was truly a night I’ll never forget, and the perfect way to end a stressful and eventful year,” Pacheco said.
