On April 17 and 18, the Emerson Majestics held their annual Spring Show, showcasing the team’s dedication to dance and highlighting the seniors’ last moments with the team.
The Spring Show is the Majestics’ final team performance for the year, symbolizing the end of the fifth dance line. The night features a series of dance routines that showcase the team’s technical skill, creativity, and growth throughout the year and their contest season. The event draws a large audience of family, friends and community members, making it one of the most anticipated events of the year. Team Captain, Ava Holcomb, 12, has been a part of the squad since her freshman year and has grown into a leader who sets the tone for the team’s energy and work ethic.
“Spring Show is special because we get to see everything we’ve worked for come together,” Holcomb said. “The team has worked so hard this year, and I’m really proud of what we have accomplished.”
Throughout the show, the Majestics perform an array of small and large group numbers. Some of the most popular numbers featured the teams’ most experienced and hardest-working leaders: the dance officers. Jade Bontron, 11, performed her award-winning solo that placed at numerous competitions. While solos like Bontron’s stood out, the dance officers also have the chance to perform together.
“My favorite officer dances this year were probably Officer Jazz and Officer Novelty,” Bontron said. “I loved jazz because of how unique it was, and I love ‘Hot Wings’ from Rio because I want to be a bluebird.”
Beyond the Majestic’s performances, Spring Show invites many Emerson High School clubs and local organizations to perform, highlighting the community involvement and support for the arts. The event featured a wide variety of performances, with each group bringing their own distinct style, costumes and energy. This year, the Desi Dance Club, K-Pop Club and Emerson Cheerleaders were invited to perform again.
“One of my favorite clubs that performed was K-Pop Club,” Ethan Arellano, 12, said. “I’ve watched them perform at the spring show each year, but this year was definitely their best.”
While Spring Show is an exciting night full of high kicks and switch-leaps, it’s also the final performance for the seniors Majestics. In between performances, short videos play throughout the night to highlight the 11 seniors and give a glimpse into their memories with the team. At the end of the show, seniors got to walk to the stage—and as part of tradition—hang their hats for the last time.
“It’s definitely very emotional. Most of us have been on this team with each other for the last four years, and it’s hard to just let that go,” Social Officer, Bennett Webster, 12, said. “My best friends are on the team, and I’m just glad we got to perform together one last time.”
This year’s Spring Show marked a memorable end to an iconic season, celebrating the achievements of the Majestics and the lasting impact of its seniors. Ultimately, the night marks both the end of the drill team’s fifth line and the beginning of a new season.
“Once a Majestic, always a Majestic,” Webster said.
